Largs
The Three Sisters monument to Sir Thomas Makdougall Brisbane representing the astronomy
observatory that was built in 1808 where he did most of his important work. In Brisbane Glen there is
another smaller pillar which was originally a device through which the three sisters could be signed
and due north established.
The Pencil Monument
Largs' most famous monument built in 1912 to commemorate the Battle
of Largs 1263 when the Scots defeated King Haco of Norway's troops on the shore at Largs after the
160 long ships got caught in a storm.
Neolithic Tomb
Situated in Douglas Park this Tomb dates from about 3000BC and is the burial ground of the Beaker People.
Vikingar
The Viking Experience has interactive exhibits with storytellers telling Viking tales and myths.
Kelburn Castle
The Castle has extensive grounds where there is an adventure playground for day trippers with
a pet's corner, wooden stockade, woodland adventure trail, marine assault course and many
woodland nature trails.
Also within easy reach are the town of Ayr and Robert Burns birthplace, the city of Glasgow
and its fine architecture, museums and good shops and the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond
with its rugged highland peaks and hidden glens.
